A tool for the trip I wanted to plan
Multi-day hiking means bringing together a route, gear, places to stay and the practical details of getting there. Nordic Trails grew around that need for Denmark and southern Sweden.
How the product was developed
Nordic Trails is entirely a Claude Code build. My focus was on functionality, bugs, implementation and design, rather than writing the code or directing the architecture. I shaped what the application should do and iterated on how it behaved.
The project demonstrates the ability to turn a practical need into a product through AI-assisted development. It should not be read as evidence that I independently authored its codebase or designed every technical component.
The user-facing work
- Route and map-based planning for multi-day hikes.
- Gear and packing decisions alongside trip preparation.
- Iterative design and bug fixes based on the behavior of the application.
Implementation context
The documented stack includes FastAPI, PostgreSQL/PostGIS and React/TypeScript, with map rendering and background processing. These describe the application's implementation, not a list of components I personally engineered. Historical technical details and counts have not been independently re-audited for this note.
What carries into other work
Define the user's task, make the desired behavior explicit, inspect the result and keep improving the parts that get in the way. For a client engagement, the acceptance criteria, technical review and support arrangements need to be agreed separately.
